The class and culture clash between Greg and the world of the Byrnes family provided the veteran actor of "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" with perhaps his best comedic performance, made all the more hilarious because of how straight he played his character, Jack Byrnes. A number of scenes were improvised between the two warring male leads, and three identical cats were actually used for Jack's adored pet during production.
